You can take out travel insurance at any time before your trip starts, but the sooner the better. Buying your travel insurance as soon as you book your tickets means you're covered if something disrupts your travel, like a delay or cancellation.
If you take out travel insurance after you've booked your trip, the same protection comes into effect after a 7-day waiting period.
Our travel policies cover some recreational activities like cycling, surfing, and paddleboarding, but they don't cover more specialist activities. Examples of specialist activities include any extreme versions of any sport, or competing in a competitive event, mountaineering, or parachuting.
See the policy wording for more details, or call us on 0800 606 688.
Some pre-existing medical conditions are automatically covered under the Comprehensive plan. Cover for pre-existing medical conditions which are not automatically covered may be available for an additional premium following a medical assessment.
If you have cover under another insurance policy, you will need to claim through the other insurer in the first instance. If we provide cover and accept your claim, we will pay any additional amounts over and above what the other insurer pays.
There is cover in place if your baggage is stolen; however, there are some exclusions.
See the policy wording for more details.
Travel insurance only covers the unexpected. Our travel insurance policies have a prior knowledge exclusion in place, which means there is no cover for anything that you were aware of when you purchased the cover that would give rise to a claim.
There are restrictions on cover if you are riding a moped or motorcycle (whether as a driver or passenger).
See the policy wording for more details.
Our travel insurance policies are for young and old, including children travelling with adults, and unaccompanied minors.
Dependent children travelling with an adult on the same policy are covered at no additional cost. For International Cover, that's up to 21 years of age.
A parent or guardian can buy a policy for their child if they are travelling as an unaccompanied minor. They will be charged the minimum adult premium.
Gather your supporting documents that you'll need to include with your claim. This could be your travel itinerary, confirmation of cancellation, applicable refunds, photos, receipts, etc.
Once that's done, make your claim online. You can also call us on +64 9 487 0818 if you're overseas or 0800 606 688 if you're back in New Zealand.
You'll need to choose a plan that covers you in all the destinations you're travelling to. For example, if you select your primary destination as Australia, the policy will only cover you for journeys within Plan A destinations. By selecting Australia, you won't have cover for destinations in higher places like Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, or the Pacific Islands.
If you're travelling to multiple countries, we're made it easy to choose regions. Select from Worldwide, Pacific Islands, North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Middle East, United Kingdom, Cruise New Zealand, Cruise Pacific Islands, Cruise Asia, Cruise Europe, or Cruise Worldwide.
Travel alert notice: Please check the latest travel advisories on the Allianz Partners website to see if it is safe to travel to your chosen destination. You should also check safetravel.govt.nz for information on any countries you might be visiting. Remember to register your travel plans with Safe Travel before you leave so New Zealand officials can contact you in the event of an emergency.
