Contents insurance FAQs
No. Contents insurance only covers your items while you're travelling within New Zealand. If you're heading overseas, take out a Travel insurance policy with us to make sure you're covered.
Our Plus and Premium Contents insurance policies do cover your home office. Plus gives cover up to $5,000 at your house, and Premium gives cover up to $10,000 at your house.
This cover applies to any office furniture and equipment primarily used at home to earn income. This includes hardware and purchased software.
For more detailed information, check out our Contents Plus policy and Premium Contents policy, or call us on 0800 379 372.
Don't worry, all of our Contents policies cover mobile phones starting from $500 cover on our Standard policy, up to no limit on our Premium policy.
Want our Standard policy or Plus policy, but need more cover for your phone? No problem, just let us know and we'll increase the limit for that item.
If your phone needs repairing, we have a network of skilled technicians who can handle this for you.
Yes. Our Contents policies cover your prescription glasses and sunglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, and removable dentures. We'll repair or replace them if they are damaged, lost, or stolen.
We know how important these items can be to your quality of life, so we strive to get these sorted as soon as possible.
If you have either the Contents Plus policy or Premium policy, you'll pay a reduced excess of $100 for prescription glasses and contact lenses claims.
It can be difficult to know how much any specific item is worth, especially after you've owned it for a few years. As a rule of thumb, consider how much it would cost to replace your contents. Not just electronics and jewellery, but your clothing and kitchen utensils too.
To help you estimate this cost, look at prices for similar items. Be aware of sales while you do this. To be safe, always use the standard retail price.

Damage to your contents through daily life, ageing, and normal wear and tear is not covered.
We will cover contents of the named policy holders and their family members who live at the same address as you. If you have flatmates, boarders, or guests, they will need to have their own contents policy for any items that belong to them.
You don't have to tell us if your home is unoccupied for a short period of time, as your contents left at home will still be covered.
However, if your house is left unoccupied for more than 90 consecutive days, your cover is limited from day 91 to loss, damage, or liability arising from:
- a natural hazard
- a fire resulting from a natural hazard
- a fire that is not related to or started by a deliberate or intentional act
- a storm or flood caused by weather events.
Under the above circumstances, an additional excess of $1,000 will be applied in the event of a claim for loss to your contents left at your unoccupied home.
This does not apply to the contents of your holiday home.
Please call us on 0800 379 372 if you know your house has been, or will be, unoccupied for more than 90 days.
